The Auer Story by Péter Kováts Bartók-Pásztory Award-winning violinist, Gold-Order of the Cross of the Republic of Hungary ( for teaching activities) conductor, artistic director

The Auer Project conducted by Péter Kováts violinist, carefully cultivate the spiritual legacy of Lipót Auer. The aim is to present the diversity and far-reaching possibilities of violin playing and tuition, following the basics of his teachings and his traditions.

„I was born and raised in Hungary. My home town is called Veszprém, my father worked here as a painter and decorator. True to the traditions of my country I grew up with a milk bottle in one hand and a violin in the other.” – says Lipót Auer (1845-1930) in his memoir. Franz Liszt, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov were proud to call him their friend. He worked in Russia as the Tzar’s solo violinist, he taught at the Conservatoire of St Petersburg, and he became the director and conductor of the Russian Council of Music. Lipót Auer counted among his fans the Tzar himself, as well as the Prince of Wales, the King of Sweden and the Sultan of Turkey. He became the professor at the world famous New York Juilliard and the Philadelphia Curtis Institute. He was still performing at Carnegie Hall at age eighty and he taught such renowned musicians as Jascha Heifetz and Nathan Milstein.
